Technology licensing firm Wi-LAN Inc said yesterday, August 11, that it has settled a pending patent lawsuit with BlackBerry maker Research In Motion.
As a result of the settlement, RIM has obtained a licence to some of Wi-LAN's wireless technology patents, adding that pending litigation between the two companies will be dropped.
It said terms of the pact were confidential.
The Ottawa-based firm also said that it was raising its financial forecasts sharply for fiscal 2008.
It said it now expects revenue for 2008 will be between CAN$24.5 million and CAN$25.5 million, up from previous forecasts of between CAN$15 million and CAN$20 million.
Additionally, Wi-LAN revealed the signing of new 12 license agreements in the third quarter, up from 10 in the previous. It has also signed license agreements for its V-chip patents with 12 companies, up from seven in the previous quarter.
